The paper presents recent knowledge about the behaviour of rodents, specifically the brown rat, which is important for effective control measures. Understanding rat behaviour is essential, as they coexist with humans and can cause significant damage to them. Rats synchronise their activities with human actions to enhance their survival and avoid potential threats from humans. They exploit human shortcomings, such as untidiness or infrastructure failures, as sources of food and shelter. The behavioural patterns of rats mirror those of humans; however, rats exhibit specific behaviours that complicate extermination efforts, aiding their survival. These behaviours include food aversion, neophobia, specific territoriality, and circumspection, among others.
