Competitividade Turística Regional: Avaliação nos Principais Mercados, 1991-2001

Abstract

O artigo apresenta um estudo sobre a competitividade turística das sete regiões de Portugal classificadas no nível II da Nomenclatura de Unidades Territoriais para Fins Estatísticos (NUTS II): Norte; Centro; Lisboa e Vale do Tejo; Alentejo; Algarve; Açores; e Madeira. A avaliação do desempenho é efectuada através da aplicação do instrumento Análise de Quotas de Mercado (AQM), complementado por medidas de concentração e taxas de crescimento, à variável dormidas nos estabelecimentos hoteleiros. No período de 1991 a 2001, as regiões com posições competitivas menos fortes registam as evoluções menos favoráveis, excepção para os Açores, e as regiões com posições competitivas mais fortes registam as evoluções mais favoráveis, excepção para o Algarve. Por outro lado, as regiões têm desempenhos relativos distintos entre si nas várias origens, sendo a singularidade mais intensa entre as principais regiões turísticas o que pode potenciar conflitualidade regional na definição de objectivos nacionais.
