Abstract

ABSTRACT The present work was carried out in the "El Porvenir" farm, belonging to the popular council of La Coronú in the municipality of Contramaestre, province of Santiago de Cuba in the period from September 2018 to February 2019. The objective of this study was to determine the agronomic behavior of three varieties of corn (Zea Mays L.) that maintains an adequate adaptation to the edaphoclimatic conditions existing in the area. A randomized block design was used, with four replicas; the plots had an area of 20 m2 on a soft sialitic brown soil without carbonate. Growth, development and yield indicators were evaluated in the Criollo, Tusón and Canilla varieties, which were subjected to a simple variance analysis with the use of the multiple range of means test using the Duncan test p = 0.05%. The results showed when evaluating the growth and development indicators of the crop that these do not differ for the three varieties under study. The Canilla variety shows yields of the 5.3 tha-1. In the economic analysis, the unit cost in the Canilla variety was reduced, always lower than the rest of the varieties studied whit the best performance. Keywords: Evaluation, varieties, maize, agronomic, edaphoclimatic.
