Clarisas franciscanas en Manila: Vida de la Venerable Madre por Ana de Cristo

Abstract

En el año 1621, la clarisa franciscana Jerónima de la Asunción, acompañada por otras religiosas toledanas, fundará el Convento de Santa Clara de la Concepción de Manila, siendo el primer monasterio femenino en Filipinas. Tanto la vida de la religiosa como el proceso de fundación del convento quedarán recogidos por escrito por una de sus acompañantes, sor Ana de Cristo, cuyo manuscrito, de 450 folios, nunca será publicado. El objetivo de esta investigación es contextualizar el proceso de fundación y la vida de la Venerable Madre como ventana a la producción literaria conventual femenina en el contexto conventual de comienzos del siglo XVII. A través de su estudio se pretende comprender la complejidad de la vida conventual y la influencia de las estructuras patriarcales en la sociedad de la época y su plasmación en la literatura.
