Splitting a beam so as to separate it into a transmitted and reflected component is normally associated with laser optics. An interesting feature was observed when designing a water-column delay line that suggested a similar beam splitting effect could be had for acoustic applications. This paper provides a description of the principles involved and a description of a prototype delay line using these principles.
