Estructura urbana y segregación socioresidencial en América Latina

Abstract

En América Latina, al igual que en ciertos países del sur de Europa, la segregación socioresidencial está fuertemente asociada a la forma de producción de la ciudad. Paradójicamente los indicadores de segregación no dan cuenta de la intensidad de este fenómeno, por el hecho de que, en las periferias, los tejidos poblados por las clases más acomodadas se entremezclan espacialmente con aquellos en dónde vive la población de renta baja. En este artículo se explora, a partir de datos censales y a nivel de sección censal, la relación que existe entre la segregación y la estructura urbana en Maceio (Brasil) y Monterrey (México). Los resultados sugieren que existe una concomitancia, aunque no lineal, entre el nivel de cualificación urbanística y la segregación: en tanto, las zonas con servicios urbanos aceptables poseen la mayor diversidad de grupos socioeconómicos y socioeducativos. Muy por el contrario, las zonas marginadas de dichos servicios no sólo están infra-diversificadas, sino y sobre todo, son el escenario en el cual se potencian los fenómenos de híper-segregación, detectados a través de técnicas espaciales LISA. Estos resultados podrían servir de guía para las políticas orientadas a combatir las inequidades urbanas
