Abstract

A arqueologia, como campo científico de pesquisa, surgiu em meados do século XIX, na encruzilhada do que hoje se designam por humanidades, ciências sociais e ciências naturais. Esta dimensão radicalmente interdisciplinar foi complementada, desde o início, por uma componente estrutural que agora se designa por transdisciplinar. Nesta base, construiu-se também o impacto da arqueologia na sociedade e a sua importância epistemológica e social no presente, por destacar outros saberes que não os dos cientistas, não como uma alternativa, mas como uma componente da ciência. A arqueologia tornou-se, assim, um espaço único para a convergência de quatro abordagens disciplinares, mas também epistemológicas: narrativas literárias, avaliações antropológicas comparativas da diversidade, implementação de métodos científicos e participação social de não-especialistas no processo construção de dados básicos para a investigação. A arqueologia surgiu nesta encruzilhada de saberes académicos e não académicos, como a praxis acima referida, que hoje designamos por “transdisciplinaridade”.
