WCAG-Barrierefreiheitstandards in Content Management Systeme

Abstract

This Master's thesis dives into the challenges associated with implementing the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) using Content Management Systems (CMS). It presents a comprehensive analysis based on a systematic literature review (SLR) as proposed by vom Brocke et al. (2009). Through the findings of the SLR, three primary challenges were identified: the technical difficulties in adapting CMS to meet standards, improving usability for content creators and the time constraints involved in implementation. For each identified challenge, this thesis introduces specific solutions. In addition, the SLR conducted offers insights into the advantages and disadvantages of applying WCAG standards, along with an evaluation of attitudes towards the adoption of these guidelines through CMS platforms. In essence, this thesis not only highlights the technical and organizational challenges in integrating WCAG standards into CMS but also provides extensive solutions to overcome these challenges. By doing so, it contributes towards achieving a more accessible digital world.
