Sharing Economy

Motive und Barrieren zur konsumentenseitigen Nutzung von Peer-to-Peer Vermietungsangeboten
Authors: Stockreiter, Nina;

Sharing Economy

Abstract

The phrase "sharing is caring" expresses the common use of goods and resources. Sharing is a human practice that has not only become popular in modern times. New is the medium through which sharing is arranged – the internet. This has created a digital culture of sharing. This master's thesis aims to examine the sharing economy concept in the form of peer-to-peer accommodation. The focus is on the analysis of selected motives and barriers to consumer-side use. At the beginning the basics of the sharing economy are explained in order to achieve an understanding of the topic. This part is followed by a theoretical overview of the constructs. The discussion of whether there is a relationship between motives, barriers and the usage behaviour was conducted through a quantitative online survey with Austrians aged between 18 and 65. The result is that lack of trust and performance risk have a negative impact on consumer usage. Sustainability, sense of community and economic benefits do not have a significant influence. With these findings into the peer-to-peer accommodation, insights from the demand perspective are provided. This master thesis is completed with recommendations for action to further increase the acceptance of peer-to-peer accommodation offers.
