Tape and reel controller customization
Authors: Bergner, Marcell;
Abstract

The company Flex produces small electronic modules that are tested and packaged at the end of the production flow. For this purpose, developed in-house test lines are utilized, in which purchased packaging machines are integrated. Newly developed production machines lead to changed requirements on the integrated packaging machine. A lack of communication restricts possibilities of new development. Additionally, impractical sequence control of irregularity detection by sensors results in their deactivation. The aim of the master´s thesis is to replace the existing control unit by a new microcontroller and a specifically developed controller board. First, known microcontrollers are investigated and their characteristics are compared. For the evaluation, the basic requirements for the microcontroller are examined by analysing the packaging machine. With the obtained results a microcontroller is selected and a prototype for the controller board is constructed. Based on the prototype, an improved circuit diagram is created and a new controller board is designed and manufactured. The functions are programmed in order to control the components of the packaging machine for their verification of the new control unit. The modified control unit enables individually customized packaging processes with different possibilities of controlling or material monitoring. Future requirements can be easily implemented due to the gained flexibility.
