Abstract

La corrupción tiene en América Latina una relevancia notoria. Sin embargo, apenas existen estudios que analicen históricamente el tema. Este libro llena este vacío. Proponemos aquí una “nueva forma de abordar la historia de la corrupción”. La corrupción no es un hecho inmutable y rígido, sino un concepto que cambia en relación con las diferentes mentalidades de cada período histórico. Como el fenómeno varía según la época, el análisis cultural de su desarrollo permite “ver” transiciones en las sociedades del pasado y entender valores políticos poco estudiados. Se analiza la corrupción desde la época colonial hasta la actualidad para contribuir a una visión comparativa. De esta manera, se entienden mejor los distintos significados del concepto y la legitimidad de los sistemas políticos. Se estudian los vínculos entre la corrupción, las acusaciones en la opinión pública y las decisiones políticas. Los distintos artículos del libro van más allá de una historia de escándalos: permiten entender la constitución y el funcionamiento de las sociedades en general. La corrupción, entonces, emerge como una figura fundamental de la comunicación política.
