
Quality of Service management can be used to differentiate service levels between data flows. QoS settings impact Radio Access Network (RAN), Transport, and Core elements. QoS settings can be used to provide guaranteed connectivity Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for an individual service. The simple SLA model in mobile networks is based on 3GPP specifications, so it can be used with any vendor’s RAN, Transport, or Core. RAN and transport networks have a limited amount of capacity available, so managing these resources is crucial. We propose different QoS profiles to be used and tied to different slices that have known capacity limits to make the management of network resources easier. A two-layer approach provides new commercial models to monetize QoS capabilities because there is a separation between slices; capacity management in one slice does not interfere with capacity management in the other network slices in the same network.
