Abstract

La tuberculosis es una enfermedad formidable en todo el mundo debido a su naturaleza altamente infecciosa y su propensión a la latencia. La creciente prevalencia de la tuberculosis en individuos inmunocompetentes e inmunocomprometidos en los últimos años hace que esta enfermedad sea un tema de preocupación universal. La enfermedad tiene un inicio insidioso y puede afectar prácticamente a cualquier sistema de órganos del cuerpo, incluido el sistema nervioso central (SNC). La tuberculosis del SNC puede imitar una serie de otras entidades de la enfermedad y, por lo tanto, es importante estar familiarizado con las diversas características radiológicas de la tuberculosis del SNC para garantizar un diagnóstico temprano y preciso. En este capítulo discutimos varias posibles presentaciones de la tuberculosis del sistema nervioso central que involucran el cerebro y la columna vertebral.

La tuberculose est une maladie redoutable dans le monde entier en raison de sa nature hautement infectieuse et de sa propension à la latence. La prévalence croissante de la tuberculose chez les personnes immunocompétentes et immunodéprimées au cours des dernières années fait de cette maladie un sujet de préoccupation universelle. La maladie a un début insidieux et peut affecter pratiquement tous les systèmes organiques du corps, y compris le système nerveux central (SNC). La tuberculose du SNC peut imiter un certain nombre d'autres entités pathologiques, et il est donc important de se familiariser avec les différentes caractéristiques radiologiques de la tuberculose du SNC pour assurer un diagnostic précoce et précis. Dans ce chapitre, nous discutons de diverses présentations possibles de la tuberculose du système nerveux central impliquant le cerveau et la colonne vertébrale.

Tuberculosis is a formidable disease worldwide because of its highly infectious nature and propensity for latency. The increasing prevalence of tuberculosis in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised individuals in recent years makes this disease a topic of universal concern. The disease has insidious onset and can affect virtually any organ system in the body, including the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS tuberculosis can mimic a number of other disease entities, and therefore it is important to be familiar with the various radiologic features of CNS tuberculosis to ensure early, accurate diagnosis. In this chapter we discuss various possible presentation of central nervous system tuberculosis involving the brain and spine.
