Σκοπός του συγγράμματος θα είναι να παρέχει βασικές θεωρητικές και πρακτικές γνώσεις πάνω στην διαδικασία σχεδίασης και ανάπτυξης περιεχομένου για ηλεκτρονικά μαθήματα. Συγκεκριμένα θα βοηθήσει τους φοιτητές στην απόκτηση βασικών θεωρητικών γνώσεων για την αποσαφήνιση εννοιών και επιστημονικών προσεγγίσεων που σχετίζονται με την online εκπαίδευση, στην απόκτηση γνώσης μοντέλων και μεθοδολογίας σχεδιασμού ηλεκτρονικών μαθημάτων και στην γνωριμία με εξειδικευμένες τεχνολογίες ανάπτυξης και παραγωγής ηλεκτρονικού εκπαιδευτικού περιεχομένου, που αφορά την Διαδικτυακή Εξ Αποστάσεως Εκπαίδευση
