Abstract

Gefastet wird seit jeher in allen Religionen und Kulturen. Was treibt Menschen dazu? Offensichtlich versprechen sie sich etwas davon, dem natürlichen Bedürfnis der Sättigung zu entsagen. Tatsächlich gibt es dafür gute Gründe. Fasten ist gesund und sozial. Was man sich vom Mund abspart, kann man anderen schenken. Als aszetische Praktik verstanden, hat das Fasten zudem religiöse Motive. Darum fasten auch Christen. Sie erhoffen sich eine intensive Glaubenserfahrung und verstehen die Unterbrechung der Essensroutine als eine Form von Buße und leibhaftigem Beten. Darum fragen heute auch Protestanten: Hilft das Fasten, geistlich in Form zu bleiben? Vielleicht geht nicht nur die Liebe, sondern auch der Glaube durch den Magen … Es lohnt sich, darüber theologisch nachzudenken.
