Levinas e a teologia

Abstract

<p>Este estudo visa abordar o problema da teologia no pensamento de Emmanuel Levinas. De início, procuramos tecer um breve mapeamento dos diferentes usos do termo teologia por Levinas. Com isso, buscamos evidenciar que Levinas propõe um novo sentido para o vocábulo em questão, diverso em relação àquele em que se define como discurso racional sobre Deus. Concomitantemente, tentamos mostrar que a crítica levinasiana se dirige sobretudo à teologia racional, por causa de seu conúbio histórico com a filosofia, cuja essência é então definida em termos de uma aspiração à unidade absoluta. Dobrando-se às exigências racionais de universalidade conceitual e inclinando-se à insatisfação relativa ao conhecimento, a teologia padeceria da tentação de abster-se do sofrimento de outrem, relegando a práxis responsável a segundo plano em relação à primazia outorgada ao conhecimento e ao amor a Deus. Identificadas as razões pelas quais Levinas julga dever criticar a teologia racional, nos propomos a enfrentar o desafio de uma possível caracterização do próprio discurso levinasiano sobre Deus, definindo-o não em termos de teologia negativa, mas como um discurso pretensamente “filosófico”, desde que aí se subentenda a primazia da ética em relação à ontologia, mas sem que a tensão entre os dois níveis de significação, o ético e o ontológico, seja suprimida. Com isso, procuramos evidenciar qual é o exato lugar que a teologia ocupa no seio do discurso levinasiano, dada a distinção que o autor estabelece entre testemunho e teologia. À teologia enquanto discurso racional sobre Deus é anteposta uma espécie <em>sui generis</em> de teofania, uma revelação de Deus mediante o encontro ético com o outro humano.</p>
