A study of gunshot wounds sustained by adolescents revealed 55 cases which required admission to hospital over a five-year period. The most serious injuries occurred in patients who attempted suicide. Two-thirds of the cases resulted from accidental firing of the weapon in a variety of circumstances. The law relating to the possession and use of firearms by adolescents is outlined.
