Abstract

Un aspecto muy importante de la provincia de Bolívar, es que es uno de los más importantes centros agrícolas del Ecuador, de donde salen productos para consumo nacional y para la exportación, sobre todo alimentos: maíz, cacao, banano, palma africana y otros cultivos que han extendido la frontera agrícola, y han ocasionado grandes daños al suelo, las fuentes de agua y en general las condiciones agroecológicas de la provincia. Esto además ha ocasionado la migración de los pobladores tradicionales, la salud de los habitantes, el clima y las posibilidades mismas de aprovechamiento para actividades agrícolas. Uno de los sectores más sensibles son las madres gestantes y los niños recién nacidos, por eso se focalizará la atención hacia las consecuencias que le acarrean esta situación problemática que es, a la vez, ecológica, económica, social y de salud.
