Desacuerdos persistentes y agnosticismo filosófico

Abstract

Suele admitirse que en la filosofía ocurren desacuerdos persistentes. Ellos parecen motivar el agnosticismo filosófico, esto es la suspensión racional del juicio acerca del tema que es objeto de desacuerdo, o al menos la reducción significativa de la credibilidad asignada a la posición originalmente sostenida. En este artículo respondemos a este problema mediante la estrategia siguiente. Primeramente, recogemos la argumentación de Thomas Kelly (2016) tendiente a mostrar que el agnosticismo filosófico no se sigue de ninguna teoría epistemológica de los desacuerdos. En segundo lugar, mostramos que si bien el conciliacionismo liberal -i.e. una de las teorías dentro de la epistemología de los desacuerdos- no conduce en los hechos al agnosticismo filosófico, genera otro problema relacionado e igualmente serio, al que llamaré problema de la metodología equivocada. Finalmente, basándonos en consideraciones de Brian Weatherson (2011), ofrecemos una razón para pensar que el conciliacionismo liberal, a diferencia de otras formas de conciliacionismo, se auto-refuta, dando así una respuesta al problema posible de la metodología equivocada.
