Abstract

Nowa Zelandia to jedno z najlepiej rozwiniętych państw świata. W roku 1944 ten wówczas półtora milionowy kraj pomimo ogromnej odległości od Polski przyjął w jednym momencie ponad 800 polskich uchodźców, w tym 733 dzieci, głównie sieroty. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie emocjonalnego bagażu doświadczeń, jakim zostali obarczeni nieletni obywatele II RP w latach 1939-1945, oraz ich starań o zachowanie polskiej kultury, tożsamości i religii podczas deportacji w czasie II wojny światowej do ZSRS, a następnie drogi przez Iran po Nową Zelandię. W pracy zostały wykorzystane fragmenty niezwykle emocjonalnych wywiadów, jakich po latach udzieliły przebywające na terenie Nowej Zelandii dawne polskie dzieci z Pahiatua, dla wielu osób piszących artykuły, książki, oraz tworzących filmy dokumentalne, traktujące na ten temat.
