The aim of this paper was to determine the current status of the production and marketing of avocado crop in the south of the State of Mexico in 2011. The sample size was set since the whole of registered producers in the “SEDAGRO” data base, made up of 2,814; therefore taking into account the methodology of finite populations. Sample size was of 338, to whom a survey was applied. The survey´s quantitative data was recorded and processed with Microsoft Office Excel 2007 ©, to get measures of central tendency. In the State of Mexico 85% of the studied population are small producers and just 15% have larger areas than 10 ha. The production is based on univarietal exploitation where Hass variety predominates with 90%. The increase in number of avocado crops has been done in 77% with plants coming from the State of Michoacan. Production is directed to domestic consumption; it is mainly commercialized in wholesale market places from Toluca and Mexico City as well as in regional markets.
