Osteoartrite: Consequência evolutiva?

Abstract

A osteoartrite é uma doença degenerativa que afeta as articulações e se trata de uma doença multifatorial. Este artigo tem por objetivo analisar suas consequências evolutivas e os fatores que influenciam a diversidade fenotípica da doença. A variação fenotípica entre os seres vivos é crucial para permitir a seleção natural, mas essa variação precisa ser limitada para evitar o colapso das funções vitais do sistema orgânico. Os tipos celulares do tecido esquelético têm suas origens em animais aquáticos e mantiveram suas características e vias de sinalização durante a transição para a vida terrestre, com modificações epigenéticas conservadas. A diversidade fenotípica na unidade osteocondral ocorre devido a processos de ontogenia, remodelação, variação fenotípica, adaptação e sensibilidade ambiental. Esses processos envolvem fatores estressores internos e externos, transições ordenadas do desenvolvimento celular, mudanças no tempo do desenvolvimento, rápida adaptação e modificações epigenéticas.
