Abstract

Se estudió la composición química del aceite esencial de Origanum syriacum L. —nueva variedad introducida en Paraguay— extraído a las 2, 4 y 6 horas del proceso respectivamente, por el método de destilación por arrastre de vapor de agua, a partir de hojas previamente desecadas. Se llevaron a cabo la identificación botánica y el análisis morfoanatómico de la especie vegetal en estudio con el propósito de comprobar su autenticidad, paso fundamental para el inicio de la investigación. La caracterización química del aceite esencial se realizó por cromatografía gaseosa acoplada a espectrometría de masas (GC-MS); la cual reveló que el aceite está constituido mayoritariamente por carvacrol en porcentajes de 19,2; 11,9 y 19,5% correspondientes a las 2, 4 y 6 horas de extracción, además de la variedad de otros compuestos en menor proporción, apareciendo algunos particulares en los diferentes periodos de extracción. Se determinaron además la densidad, el índice de refracción, el pH, la solubilidad y el espectro UV como parámetros adicionales de caracterización. El rendimiento del aceite esencial fue del 1,71% al final del proceso de extracción, expresado en base seca.
