Neuroanatomia dos transtornos de humor

Abstract

Diversas alterações neuroanatômicas e bioquímicas têm sido encontradas em pacientes portadores dos mais diferentes tipos de transtornos psiquiátricos, entre eles a depressão. Isso tem levado os pesquisadores a tentar identificar qual seria o padrão de alterações comuns a cada tipo de patologia psiquiátrica. Este trabalho procura fazer uma revisão da literatura a respeito das principais anormalidades neuroanatômicas observadas em pacientes unipolares e bipolares, com destaque para os lobos pré-frontal, frontal e temporal, córtex orbitofrontal, tálamo, amígdala, hipocampo, núcleos da base e eixo hipotálamo-hipófise-adrenal. Apesar de os dados da literatura se mostrarem bastante controversos, existe uma grande expectativa de que haja um padrão diferencial de envolvimento cerebral em pacientes unipolares e bipolares, sugerindo que esses dois tipos de transtorno de humor são biologicamente diferentes.
