Classificando abelhas

Abstract

A atividade – Classificando Abelhas – simula os procedimentos experimentais e os resultados obtidos em um estudo científico com abelhas brasileiras sem ferrão. São comparadas abelhas originárias de duas localidades diferentes (Estado de São Paulo e Estado do Paraná), classificadas como sendo da mesma espécie por meio de critérios morfológicos. A análise do DNA mitocondrial é empregada nessa comparação. São simuladas digestões do DNA com quatro enzimas de restrição para verificação de diferenças no padrão de corte e número de fragmentos gerados. Os fragmentos são separados numa simulação de eletroforese e os padrões de corte para cada enzima são comparados entre as abelhas do experimento. Os resultados mostram claramente que, embora pertencentes à mesma espécie, as abelhas apresentam marcas moleculares distintas, indicando que podem constituir unidades evolutivas e biológicas diferentes.
