Sobrediagnóstico en cribados de cáncer

Abstract

Diferentes agentes implicados en los programas de cribado poblacional de cáncer implantados en nuestro territorio, como los sanitarios y la población general, tienden a sobrestimar los beneficios y subestimar los riesgos asociados. Uno de los potenciales perjuicios de los cribados de cáncer es el sobrediagnóstico, que se define como el diagnóstico de un cáncer que nunca causaría síntomas en la vida de la persona, exponiendo así a tratamientos innecesarios a las personas implicadas. En nuestro medio, es habitual que la información acerca de los riesgos asociados al cribado esté ausente en la invitación a participar, lo que contrasta con las recomendaciones de aportar información clara y transparente, libre de conflictos de interés, acerca de los beneficios, límites y riesgos asociados a la participación en el cribado de cáncer teniendo en cuenta los valores de la persona.
