Nuevas sustancias psicoactivas: catinonas de síntesis

Abstract

Las nuevas sustancias psicoactivas (NPS, del inglés new psychoactive substances) emulan los efectos de las drogas ilegales y son distribuidas como no aptas para consumo humano a través de canales legales. Su estatus alegal, facilidad de compra y precio facilitan su consumo y propician una falsa percepción de seguridad entre sus consumidores. En España, las catinonas sintéticas son el grupo más numeroso entre las muestras de NPS identificadas en los servicios de análisis. Existe un gran listado de efectos secundarios asociados a las catinonas sintéticas, algunos de ellos potencialmente graves. Se habla de dos perfiles de usuario de NPS: consumo intencional (psiconautas, chemsex, recreativo) y consumo no intencional (por adulteración de sustancias tradicionales). La inestabilidad del mercado de la 3,4-metilenedioximetanfetamina (MDMA) lleva a la adulteración por adición o sustitución con NPS que causa una exposición a riesgos desconocidos. La estrategia de la prohibición actual propicia la aparición de nuevos compuestos que evaden la legalidad y de los que desconocemos su perfil de seguridad. El personal médico de Atención primaria (AP) está en una posición privilegiada para abordar la problemática del consumo, ofrecer una atención adecuada y derivar a unidades especializadas cuando sea preciso.
