Abstract

Consideraciones previas La laringitis aguda es una inflamación de la laringe que se manifiesta con tos ronca, faringodinia y disfonía, y puede ir precedida de catarro y fiebre. La mayoría de los casos de laringitis aguda son producidos por virus. El objetivo terapéutico es únicamente el alivio de los síntomas, salvo que se sospeche infección por estreptococos o Moraxella catarrhalis. Es necesario distinguir la laringitis de la epiglotitis. La laringitis crónica de naturaleza infecciosa es rara y debe diferenciarse de la ronquera de etiología neoplásica. Crup o laringotraqueítis aguda es una infección de laringe y tráquea que produce un edema subglótico importante, que puede causar obstrucción. Afecta generalmente a población pediátrica de 3 meses a 5 años y suele seguir a una infección de la vía respiratoria alta iniciada 1 o 2 días antes. Se caracteriza por fiebre, ronquera, tos y estridor inspiratorio. La etiología más frecuente es vírica.
