Introducción El trastorno bipolar (TB) es un trastorno mental grave y recurrente que se caracteriza por oscilaciones del estado de ánimo con fases de manía, hipomanía o mixtas que generalmente se alternan con episodios depresivos. El objetivo de este trabajo es actualizar los principales aspectos relevantes para la práctica clínica en términos de prevención, diagnóstico, tratamiento y seguimiento del profesional de Atención Primaria (AP) a pacientes con trastorno bipolar.
