El presente articulo intenta unalivar lu poltmica indiuirlualismo y colectivismo entre Emilio Durkhciin y Gabriel Tardc con los primeros años de este siglo. Sin embargo, esas discusiones no pueden entendrrsr sin establccer una evolucidn del pensamiento durkheimiano en cuanto al individnalismo y de la concepción de la Sociología como una ciencia académica. Para este objetivo es importante delimitar las nociones de sociedad e individuo de Durkheim con referencia a sus maestros, colegas y discipulos. Solamente a través de un análisis dinámico es posible entender la polémica de estas dos tendencias de la ciencia social a principios de siglo.
