Partiendo del supuesto de que existe una correlación entre las estructuras sociales y las estructuras temporales, el artículo propone una clasificación de tiempos sociales que se deriva de una noción concreta de estructura social. En primer término se analizan algunas propuestas previas en la misma dirección; se propone después un concepto específico de estructura social, tomando como punto de partida la elaboración de A. Giddens pero desarrollándola de manera autónoma; se clasifican a continuación tres formas generales de estructuración del tiempo social: el tiempo-regla, el tiempo-recurso y el tiempo-sentido; y se concluye con consideraciones más generales sobre del vínculo entre orden estructural y orden temporal.
