Abstract A serodiagnostic reaction for syphilis based on passive hemagglutination is described. Sensitization of tanned erythrocytes was carried out with sera from syphilitic patients. The reaction was used simultaneously with treponemal and cardiolipin antigens. The reaction had a very high sensitivity response. Six syphilitic control sera had a titer of 1:81,920 to 1:2,621,440. Ten serodiagnostic sera, which reacted in other tests for syphilis, had titers of 1:320 to 1:81,920. Fifty sera of patients with other diseases were nonreactive. The effect of the tanning and sensitizing conditions on the reaction are studied.
