Abstract

Se analiza la recepción, hacia 1640, de la primera traducción francesa de los Sueños y el Discurso de todos los diablos por parte de un lector concreto: el jurista y profesor alemán en las universidades de Rinteln y Groninga Johannes Conradus Monaeus, que parece haber centrado su atención en la dimensión política del Discurso de todos los diablos. Aunque sea una figura menor, puede considerarse representativa de aquella generación de intelectuales calvinistas de la primera mitad del siglo xvii que se formó con maestros de la talla de Herman Vultejus o Matthias Martinius. También se pone en relación con el interés que despertó la obra de Quevedo, dentro de la órbita reformada, durante el siglo xvii, del que es claro indicio la primera traducción neerlandesa, de Haring van Harinxma.
