¿Pueden los medios tecnológicos de pantalla infl uir en el tiempo de sueño de estudiantes de Educación Secundaria?

Abstract

El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo examinar la relación entre el tiempode sueño y el tiempo sedentario de pantalla en adolescentes, además de conocerlas diferencias del tiempo sedentario de pantalla entre los grupos que no cumplieroncon las recomendaciones del tiempo de sueño. Participaron 1563 estudiantesprocedentes de diferentes institutos de Educación Secundaria de Extremadura conedades comprendidas entre los 12-16 años (chicos: 13.12 ± .89; chicas: 13.04 ±.82). Las variables del estudio fueron el tiempo sedentario de pantalla y el tiempode sueño. Los resultados mostraron asociaciones negativas entre el tiempo de sueñoy todos los medios tecnológicos de pantalla analizados. Además, el aumento deltiempo sedentario en videojuegos, internet y uso del teléfono móvil provocó queno se cumplieran las recomendaciones de sueño establecidas (8-10 horas por día)en dicha población. Se concluye que la reducción del tiempo de sueño, se debe aluso excesivo de medios tecnológicos y tiempo sedentario de pantalla, por lo quese necesitan implementar políticas de salud pública y programas educativos parapromocionar estilos de vida saludables.
