Pemanfaatan Daun Saga Rambat Sebagai Antibakteri

Abstract

Keanekaragaman hayati, termasuk hutan tropis di Indonesia banyak yang belum teridentifikasi. Kawasan hutan tersebut memiliki potensi tanaman obat yang tinggi. Pemanfaatan tanaman obat herbal sebagai pengobatan alternatif telah diterapkan sejak dahulu. Tanaman obat yang digunakan dengan tepat memiliki risiko kecil efek samping dibandingkan dengan obat-obatan berbahan dasar sintesis. Salah satu tanaman obat yang dapat dimanfaatkan adalah tanaman saga rambat (Abrus precatorius L) digunakan untuk mengatasi batuk, sariawan, radang tenggorokan, dan sakit gigi. Menurut beberapa penelitian, daun saga rambat (Abrus precatorius L) memiliki aktivitas antibakteri. Cara alternatif untuk mencegah resistensi bakteri adalah dengan pemberian antibakteri salah satunya dengan menggunakan tanaman herbal. Daun saga rambat (Abrus precatorius L) memiliki kandungan senyawa aktif seperti flavonoid, saponi, alkaloid, dan tannin yang bersifat sebagai antibakteri. Senyawa aktif dapat merusak dinding sel bakteri, mempengaruhi permeabilitas sel bakteri, mempengaruhi protein dan asam nukleat, serta menghambat kerja enzim.
