ESTUDO DE COORTE RETROSPECTIVO SOBRE A QUALIDADE DOS TRATAMENTOS ENDODÔNTICOS

Abstract

Estudo de coorte retrospectivo com foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar a taxa de sucesso do tratamento endodôntico de pacientes da Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade de Pernambuco, Brasil.. Os prontuários odontológicos da amostra compreenderam todos os pacientes tratados em 1998 e 1999. Os ensaios foram padronizados e um estudo piloto foi realizado para determinar a viabilidade do estudo proposto. Os testes qui-quadrado e exato de Fisher foram utilizados para calcular o nível de significância que foi fixado em 5%. Modelos de regressão logística foram utilizados para confirmar o efeito significativo de algumas variáveis no resultado endodôntico. O tamanho final da amostra foi composto por 311 (75,9%) mulheres e 99 (21,1%) homens. A maioria dos casos (82,9%) foi considerada bem-sucedida. O sucesso foi menos frequente para pacientes com até o ensino fundamental (55,6%) do que para aqueles com maior grau de escolaridade (89,7%). A condição vital da polpa apresentou relação estatisticamente significativa com o sucesso da terapia endodôntica (p<0,05). Conclui-se que é possível atingir taxas de sucesso muito altas no tratamento endodôntico realizados por alunos de graduação.
