Abstract

El lactosuero es un subproducto de la fabricación de quesos y manteca, y a causa del costo de inversiones, es habitualmente descartado sin tratamiento, o uso posterior, con el consiguiente riesgo ambiental. Este artículo aborda el estudio de factibilidad de la obtención de ácido poliláctico (PLA), a partir de este lactosuero, como materia prima para impresiones 3D, hilos de sutura biodegradables, etc., teniendo en cuenta que esto representa también un beneficio para el ambiente. El estudio de mercado indicará la conveniencia de producir uno, otro, o una producción mixta, el PLA tiene dos formas, L(+) y D(-), siendo el isómero L(+), el biodegradable y metabolizado por el organismo humano. La escala, inicialmente propuesta, es al nivel PyMEs y/o MiPyMEs, con una producción diaria entre 5.000 y 10.000 litros de lactosuero, ya sea en forma individual o conjunta. Dado que los procesos fermentativos son del tipo por lote (batch), se analizarán tres líneas de producción, de manera tal que se pueda absorber la producción diaria de lactosuero, además de una línea para el cultivo de los microrganismos fermentativos. Asimismo, corresponde evaluar y minimizar el impacto ambiental de la planta, así como los beneficios que en este sentido se obtendrían.
