Evolución de la cobertura arbórea del paralelo 17°00' en adelante del departamento de Peten de los años 1978 a 1988.

Abstract

La presente investigación constituye una caracterización preliminar sobre la evolución en la cobertura arbórea en la región del paralelo 17°OO' en adelante, del departamento del Petén, durante la década de 1978 a 1988. Durante el trabajo de campo se visitaron varias regiones boscosas del Departamento, incluyendo las áreas protegidas que administra la Universidad de San Carlos por medio de el Centro de Estudios Conservacionistas CECON. E n algunas áreas específicas se hicieron transectos para caracterizar la vegetación existente (áreas protegidas El Solz y Laguna El Tigre). Los resultados finales de la investigación, se presentan en un cuadro comparativo de la cobertura presentada durante esa década. Para lograr los resultados, se efectuó un trabajo minucioso de gabinete basado en interpretación de la imagen de Lansat, fotointerpretación de Fotografía aérea convencional, cuántificación de áreas y el trabajo usual de gabinete de la ingeniería caito gráfica.
