Abstract

Las condiciones climatologicas, socioeconomicas y culturales que presenta el pais Guatemala lo hacen propicio para el establecimiento y desairollo de las enfermedades tropicales. Estas representan erio problema socioeconómico por las lesiones e incapacidades que producen en el ser humano lo que hacen difícil su incorporación a la sociedad y a sus actividades propias. Muchas son las enfermedades que son consideradas tropicales y son causadas por parásitos . ballenas o virus. Los ciclos de transmisión vanan ya que algunas son transmitidas por picaduras de insectos o vectores, otras por transfusiones de componentes sanguíneos, transmisión congénita o bien por contacto directo entre el ser humano. Entre las enfermedades presentes en Guatemala están Malaria, Enfermedad de Chagas. Leishmaniasis. Dengue, Amebiasis, Toxoplasmosis, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis por mencionar algunas. Todas ellas representan un riesgo para la población guatemalteca ya que su presentación varía en los diferentes departamentos y regiones del país. Por el peligro que estas enfermedades representan se hace necesario realizar estudios de prevalencia, búsqueda de mejores métodos de diagnóstico tanto de laboratorio como clínico, fisiopatología de las enfermedades, estudio del agente causal y búsqueda de nuevas alternativas de tratamiento.
