¿Legalizar Las Drogas?

Abstract

Los que promueven la legalización de las drogas de abuso, debieran tomar en cuenta otras opiniones. Hay mucha desinformación respecto a este tema, por lo que me permito comentar algunos aspectos relacionados. Las drogas que aparecen en las listas de las Convenciones de Estupefacientes (1961.) y el Convenio de Sustancias Psicotrópicas (1971) de las Naciones Unidas, ambas ratificadas por Guatemala, en su mayoría son legales, pero con despacho bajo receta médica. Estamos hablando de los llamados estupefacientes como el opio y derivados, morfina, petidina, meperidina, codeína, cocaína, fentanilo, etc., y sustancias psicotrópicas como las benzodiacepinas, (Valium®, Lexotan®, Tañí®, Ativan®, etc.), así como fenobarbital, pentobarbital, anfetaminas, (sustancias para el control del apetito) y otras. Los establecimientos sanitarios en Guatemala las pueden expender pero bajo estricto control médico, lo que incluye la receta medica para poder ser despachadas. La cocaínacomo fármaco es un buen anestésico local, uso que se le dio cuando fue descubierta; pero por sus potentes propiedades adictivas ya no se usa como tal, y existen mejores anestésicos locales que no son adjetivos.
