La Familia Zamiaceae En Guatemala

Abstract

La actualización del conocimiento de la Coniferas de Guatemala comprende 57 especies de plantas, de las cuales 28 especies son nativas y 29 son exóticas, agrupadas en diferentes familias, una de ellas, la familia Zamiaceae, que es un grupo de plantas parecidas a las palmas y que se estudiaron a través del Proyecto Universitario de Investigación en Ciencias Básicas- PUICB-057 "Actualización taxonómica de la flora de Guatemala, capítulo 1 Pinophyta". Se colectaron y georeferenciaron ejemplares de las distintas especies que conforman las Zamiáceas, ello permitió preparar mapas de distribución de las especies nativas, incluidas en los géneros Ceratozamia (1 especie) y Zamia (4 especies), además se documentaron especies exóticas como Dioon mejiae y Zamia furfuracea, empleadas como ornamentales. Toda esta información que puede catalogarse de primera fuente e inédita fue complementada con la revisión de las colecciones de Coniferas del Herbario MEXU (UNAM, México); del Herbario F, (Fiel Museum of Natural History, de Chicago). del Herbario N Y, (New York Botanical Garden, USA: el Herbario BIGU de la Escuela de Biología de la USAC); y del Herbario EAP (Escuela Panamericana de Agricultura-Zamorano, Honduras). Por tanto, es de notable consideración, la calidad de la información reunida a través de la presente investigación, principalmente para el enrique cimiento de las Colecciones de Referencia Botánica que entre otras i azones, son fundamentales para el Sistema Universitario de Información sobre la Biodiversidad y Conservación SIRBTOC, el cual será de gran apoyo para instituciones como CONAP, TNAB y MAGA que deben velar por el manejo racional de los recursos naturales de la Nación.
