Abstract

OBJETIVO. Determinar la magnitud del riesgo ocupacional por exposicion a objetos punzocortantes en trabajadores de la salud. DISENO. Estudio observacional descriptivo retrospectivo. MATERIALES Y METODOS. Se aplico una encuesta sobre lesiones y pun-ciones accidentales a 1.208 trabajadores en 8 unidades de salud de Ciudad de La Habana. MATERIALES Y METODOS. El 22,0 % de los trabajadores encuestados re-portaron accidentes con punzocortantes. Los trabajadores de mayor riesgo fueron los cirujanos, enfermeros, tecnicos de laboratorio y estomatologos. El 20,9 % de los trabajadores de la salud habia adquirido alguna enferme-dad infectocontagiosa en relacion con los pacientes, y el 10,8 % refirieron haber padecido hepatitis. El 3,06 % padecieron hepatitis B y C. CONCLUSIONES. Este riesgo ocupacional es frecuentemente reportado por el personal de salud y es causa de significativa morbilidad laboral
