
Para países em desenvolvimento a volatilidade na taxa de câmbio apresenta uma relação negativa com o produto, portanto este artigo analisa a efetividade das intervenções do Banco Central brasileiro, via contratos de swap na diminuição da volatilidade da taxa de câmbio futura real/dólar (BRL/USD) entre 2017 e 2020, para perídos de crise selecionados. Estimando o modelo E-GARCH os resultados apontam um aumento na volatilidade condicional nos períodos de crise, uma relação mais forte entre a depreciação inesperada da taxa de câmbio e o aumento na volatilidade condicional comparada com uma apreciação inesperada e que as intervenções via cotratos de swap são estatisticamente significantes e negativas, ou seja, reduziram a volatilidade condicional.
