Abstract

Considerando a importância dos bancos para a economia e sua não inclusão em grande parte das pesquisas realizadas, este artigo tem por objetivo verificar se os resultados contábeis divulgados pelos bancos brasileiros apresentam características de conservadorismo condicional. Como a estrutura de capital de uma empresa afeta o comportamento dos seus gestores, procurou-se também verificar a ocorrência de diferença de comportamento das empresas quando considerados os bancos de capital aberto e os de capital fechado. Foram utilizados os modelos de Basu (1997) e Ball e Shivakumar (2005), de reversão dos componentes transitórios nos lucros, analisados dados semestrais, no período de 1999 a 2012. Os resultados indicaram que as instituições não praticam conservadorismo condicional e que não há diferença no comportamento adotado pelos dois grupos de bancos.
