Redes sociales de intercambio y de pago de deudas en parejas jóvenes profesionales endeudadas de Santiago de Chile

Abstract

En un contexto de financiarización de la vida social y de aumento sostenido en los niveles de endeudamiento y de precarización de las condiciones sociales de las llamadas “clases medias”, el presente artículo se propone analizar cómo las parejas jóvenes de clases medias de Santiago reorganizan sus roles y relaciones de interdependencia para responder al endeudamiento problemático, que se comprende como el proceso mediante el cual una situación “normal” (contratar créditos) se vuelve problemática para los individuos. A partir de una serie de 20 entrevistas semi-estructuradas realizadas a parejas de jóvenes profesionales en Santiago de Chile, se busca dar cuenta del carácter relacional de los procesos de endeudamiento y de la forma en que, el pago de las deudas, reorganizan la naturaleza y las significaciones de las redes sociales de interdependencia. Los resultados dan cuenta cómo las parejas se apoyan en sus redes íntimas de familiares y amigos/as para poder responder a sus compromisos financieros. Los usos de estas redes marcan las trayectorias de endeudamiento de las parejas y sus posibilidades de sobrellevarlo.
