Ice clouds in the Martian atmosphere

Abstract

近年の探査衛星観測により火星の気象学的観測データの量が飛躍的に増加したことから,火星大気の氷雲の科学を定量的に論ずることが可能となってきた.火星のH2O氷雲は受動的トレーサであるため,その分布を調べることで直接観測が困難な火星大気の流れ場に関する情報を得ることができる.従来直接観測が困難であった極夜のCO2氷雲は,マーズグローバルサーベイヤーのレーザー高度計によりその存在が初めて明らかとなった.CO2氷雲は過去の火星の気候を考える上でも重要な要素である.過去に火星で実現していた温暖な気候を維持するには,厚いCO2大気にともなうCO2氷雲の温室効果が寄与していたのではないかと考えられているからである.CO2氷雲の形成過程と消散係数などの放射パラメータを調べることにより,現在と過去の火星の気候を理解する手がかりを得ることができるだろう.
