Measurements of ice-ice friction coefficients at low sliding velocities

Abstract

非回転式の摩擦測定器を製作し,低温室(-10℃)で滑り速度10-7m/s~10-3m/sおよび垂直応力123,245,368kPaにおける氷・氷および氷・他物質(ガラス,花崗岩)の摩擦測定を行った.氷・氷摩擦係数は,速度を10-4m/sから10-7m/sまで減少させるにつれて,0.1から1まで増加した.一方,氷・ガラス摩擦では速度10-3m/sから10-5m/sまで減少させるにつれて,0.04から0.02まで減少した.この速度領域における氷・氷摩擦係数が,低速度ほど増加する結果は,これまでの伝統的な凝着理論,すなわち摩擦面の氷の塑性流動だけでは説明できない.氷・花崗岩の摩擦係数は,速度を10-3m/sから10-6m/sまで減少させるにつれて,はじめ増加した後に減少した.氷・氷摩擦の摩擦様式はスティック・スリップと滑らかな滑りに分けられたが,速度減少とともにスティック・スリップは徐々に滑らかな滑りへ移行した.しかし,氷・他物質摩擦では,今回実験を行った全ての速度領域で摩擦様式は滑らかな滑りであった.これらの結果は,摩擦接触面における氷焼結を考慮したMaeno and Arakawa(2003)の凝着せん断理論によって説明された.
