PROCESSOS OXIDATIVOS AVANÇADOS PARA TRATAMENTO DE EFLUENTES

Abstract

O tratamento de efluentes tem sido um desafio há décadas. Dentre os métodos de tratamento utilizados podem ser citados os processos biológicos, eficientes para efluentes biodegradáveis, os físico-químicos, que envolvem transferência de fase do contaminante e os processos oxidativos avançados (POA), que promovem mineralização total ou parcial dos compostos orgânicos biodegradáveis e refratários. Os POA se caracterizam pela formação de radicais hidroxil, altamente oxidantes e não seletivos, que promovem sucessivas reações oxidativas em compostos orgânicos até que estes sejam transformados em CO2 e H2 O. Possuem, dentre várias vantagens, a não geração de subprodutos sólidos e a possibilidade de aplicação in loco. Dentre as técnicas de POA utilizadas para o tratamento de efluentes, o presente capítulo traz o destaque para as técnicas de POA H2 O2 /UV e ozonização, os quais são aqui abordados com detalhes.
