Abstract

La condición corporal es un parámetro muy utilizado para conocer las reservas de los animales, por lo que su valor permite implantar correcciones de manejo para mejorar la eficiencia reproductiva y productiva de la explotación. Su medición puede llevarse a cabo de manera subjetiva o bien utilizando otros métodos más exactos. El objetivo de este estudio fue la determinación de la relación de la condición corporal con el espesor de la grasa dorsal medido con el Renco Lean–Meater®, y además analizar la relación entre dicha condición corporal con la calidad del calostro y el peso vivo al nacimiento de los corderos. Para ello se utilizaron 37 ovejas adultas con partos dobles estabuladas en una explotación. A cada una de ellas se le realizó una valoración de la condición corporal de manera subjetiva, una medición de la grasa dorsal con el Renco Lean–Meater® y se tomó una muestra del calostro tras el parto. La calidad de este último se determinó con un refractómetro grados Brix y a los corderos se les pesó con una balanza portátil. Tras el estudio se concluyó que el Renco–Lean Meater® es un buen sistema para la medición de la grasa dorsal en ovino. Además, la condición corporal afectó al peso vivo de los corderos al nacimiento, pero no a la calidad del calostro.
