Diferencias en el comportamiento alimentario de Cavia porcellus determinadas por su sexo

Abstract

El cuy (C) (Cavia porcellus) es un mamífero roedor originario de la zona andina del Perú, Ecuador, Colombia y Bolivia. Constituye un producto alimenticio nativo de bajo costo de producción, que contribuye a la seguridad alimentaria de la población. Con esta investigación se aporta conocimiento a la comunidad científica y se evidencia cómo factores conductuales pueden depender, tanto de elementos instintivos y ambientales, y además, cómo estas conductas pueden ser modificadas al conocer su funcionamiento. El conocimiento sobre las diferencias de la conducta alimentaria entre los sexos de los C. porcellus puede potenciar técnicas de manejo apropiadas para intensificar su producción. La relevancia de este estudio radica en que se puede mejorar la calidad de vida del animal, la economía y la nutrición de la población. Los resultados del estudio concluyen que no existen diferencias en la conducta alimentaria de los C en relación a su sexo.
